What is it
To help carers get to know each child in their care, the passport will hold the vital information they need about the devices the child uses, and any relevant facts about their internet or phone use.
It will help carers to understand what stage children are at in their online lives and how to provide support to help keep them safer.
The tool will be used:
- At the start of the placement but can be gradually eased in depending on the child's needs and circumstances.
- When passing information to new carers.
- When any new events occur i.e. The child purchasing a new laptop
- Within school to help with the child’s education and progression
- provide consistency and stability for the child when moving to different placements.
- Help safeguard the child from online risks by keeping vital information and guidance in providing support.
- Promote positive communication between the carer and child, enabling them to make suitable agreements to help keep them safer whilst helping them to make the most of technology.
The section for foster carers should be updated regularly whilst the child is in their care.
Who can use it
- Children in care
- Foster carers
- Any professional or person chosen by the child (Child can decide who the information is shared with).
